Thuraya announces launch of its mobile satellite services in Russia

A mere 200 meters away from the Kremlin, Thuraya Telecommunications Company, the international mobile satellite operator has announced the launch of its mobile satellite services in Russia in partnership with GTNT.

The announcement was made at a press conference at the Congress Centre of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation in Moscow today, attended by Thuraya’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Samer Halawi, GTNT’s General Director, Mr. Alexey Ostapchuk and invitees from the corporate and Telco sectors and the media.

What one would refer to as major step in the development landscape was manifested at the Obar Beach Bar and Restaurant during a cocktail dinner to mark the launching of Thuraya Satellite Service in Sierra Leone. The two services include the Thuraya single mode satellite only handset and the dual mode GSM/Satellite handset.

Thuraya, Yahsat attend reception hosted by UAE Embassy in Washington D. C.

WAM Washington D. C., Mar 18th, 2012 (WAM)—The UAE Embassy in Washington D.C. hosted a reception on Wednesday, March 14th to honour the Chief Executive Officers of Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat) and Thuraya Telecommunications Company.

The two executives were in Washington to highlight the dramatic progress the UAE has made in the satellite sector.

Around 300 of the space industry’s top executives, US government officials, various embassy officials and delegations from other nations recognised the UAE’s burgeoning satellite and space industry at the event which took place on the sidelines of the Satellite 2012 Conference.

Samer Halawi, CEO of Thuraya, and Tareq Abdel Raheem Al Hosani, CEO of Yahsat, both presented during the event and discussed how the UAE has taken a leadership role in the satellite and satellite communications sectors.

Dubai-based Thuraya is a leading international mobile satellite services operator, which provides services and telecommunications solutions in over 140 countries. Abu Dhabi-based Yahsat had its first successful commercial satellite launch in April 2011. Yahsat Y1A is delivering data and voice signals to over 80 countries in the region.
